Focusrite ISA Two - 2 Channel Microphone Preamp Condition (aka The Story of the Removed Push Release Clip on Mic Input 1): - full working order - no rack marks or scratches except for a small, hard-to-see mark to bottom right front rack ear and small scratch to external plastic of Mic Input 1. I bought this unit new a few years ago, and left all cables plugged in until recently when I was getting ready to sell it. At this point, I discovered the Neutrik XLR mic cable plugged into Mic Pre 1 was stuck and I couldn't remove it easily (and I didn't want to apply excessive force to remove it). Problem was the push release clip on the Preamp Mic Input 1 was faulty, and wasn't able to'release' enough to release its hold on the XLR. Solution was to carefully remove the push release clip from mic input 1.I used the correct method (as there is a small access hole where you can press a very small screwdriver and then gently pull the clip out of the unit from the front). The clip has no affect on the actual electronic workings of the preamp so is largely redundant - I'd go further and say I find the clips a nuisance, even when they work properly. In fact lots of my other gear doesn't have clips at all and just relies on the 3 prongs of the XLR to hold in place.
I tested the preamps afterwards and they both sound identical/the way they always did so I can confirm no damage to any inner workings of the preamp or a change to the ISA Two's sound quality. In researching the problem of the push release clip, I did find quite a few examples where this has happened to other ISA Two owners and often will suddenly start happening if it doesn't exhibit the problem initially.Worth mentioning also that Mic Input 2's push release clip is more compliant and happily releases XLRs when asked! I needed this to be a front end for my RME interface as it has no preamps but I also have a separate audio interface for portable recording with built in preamps. I'm basically trying to downsize to one audio interface with built in preamps or just the ISA Two plus my PC interface, and sell the surplus item. The pro of keeping the portable setup is it's portable!
Pro of keeping ISA and PC is the classier sound and'confidence' factor of using higher end preamp with my mics. Trying to sell the ISA Two first, but will switch it with the portable interface if it doesn't sell, and happily keep the ISA.
I'm trying to let someone else decide for me what to do about keeping the ISA or not! There is a small mark on outer edge of mic input one where I removed the clip, cosmetic only. Rubber feet marks from another unit sitting on top of this are faintly visible - please see pictures of top of unit (had to use flash to help them show up).
They may be able to be completely removed with a bit more elbow grease! - original box in good condition. It has only had light use in home studio, smoke/pet free home. Kept under dust sheet when not in use.Great preamp - grab a bargain. Please let me know if you would like any more information.
