Vintage Neve Blakey Boy Mic Preamps Pair Blake Devitt (similar to 1272 / 1073)
For Sale is this fantastic pair of Custom built. Vintage Neve Blakey Boy Mic Preamps build by Blake Devitt. They are very similar to 1272 / 1073. Reluctant sale for obvious reasons. The second channel has had its phantom 48V switch bumped at some point, and is slightly bent, this has no effect on its operation or sound.

These preamps have a lot of gain and are great for mic or line inputs. They have a high pass filter and phantom power on each channel and are very versatile and I will be sad to see them go.

Below is some information from Blake Devitt who made them.. That's a bit of a rarity- one of the early ones with a high pass filter and phantom.. A pain in the ass to build.

You say you use 1073's- they are naturally a two-stage unit with 45dB of gain. For less gain, different attenuators are brought into play, which are before the first amp, so the noisefloor stays the same. However, if you only need say 45-50db maximum, this is crazy. I built these units to address this. They are quieter than a 1073 when on max gain. The noise floor on the non-boosted gain (20dB) is hilariously low-down in the -90's. The amps are single stage only, so less circuitry in the way- a really fast class AB amp. The vol pot is before the amp, so you can put any level in you want. You can gain makeup from a compressor easily at line level without screwing up your sound. You can get some transformers into a line level signal path if you want to spice things up a bit. I really like to make gear to be used at every stage of recording and mixing. Drum overheads or kick and snare are really punchy and fast as hell. I found that high gain is used so rarely, I could never understand why people don't make low gain fast stuff with minimal circuitry. In our room I have my Neve 5315 console-24 channels, and my Neve mic remote unit-another 24 channels. The prototype of this unit, that's what. Phil says I'm not getting it back.

They couldn't be more of a mirror to the 1073 type sound. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of Vintage Neve history.
