It is a one-channel vintage style microphone, line and instrument preamplifier. Highly inspired by a certain 1073 preamp. The circuit used in the MP73a is similar to the preamp section in the classical 1073 module with a corresponding sound character.

Described as warm and punchy, with a very musical character giving a lovely top. These classic characteristics have been heard on countless recordings through the years and it is a versatile sound that works very well on most sound sources and in most genres. With its minimalist design, the above and below LED's help set the threshold leaving your compression decisions up to your ears instead of your eyes. The "fast/slow" switch allows for a quick and easy choice of attack and release settings. The threshold, ratio, and output gain are fully variable. There is also a HPF at 100Hz, a polarity switch, bypass, and 48v on board. The 48v switch is a rather unique feature for a compressor that pairs nicely with in-line preamps such as Alctron's MA-1.
