This is a Gyraf Audio G9 DIY project built before Gyraf was producing the pre-built G9s. Some liberties were taken in the design such as swapping the transformers so each channel has a slightly different character. This unit was my go-to for extremely present, silky, smoky synth sounds and it's so sexy as a Bass or Guitar DI. Warms up vocal as well. It has an exceptional sound I've been using on recordings for years now, but does have some quirks: There is a bit of a 60hz hum that is noticeable on very quiet recordings if you don't gain-stage properly or you use this to track too many sounds. This unit is rich and vibey and not your classical recording pre. Nor is it a pre you will want to use for recording 24 tracks all run through here. What IT IS great for is 1-3 instruments that you want to pipe through this glorious circuitry to distinguish them from other sounds in your recording.

Also, the Phantom power voltage is low and isn't always enough for some mics so I used an external phantom power before entering the G9. Lastly, the LED power on indicator went out recently. I did not build this kit and cannot comment further on the electrical design on the 60 hz hum but I do believe it might be remediable by the right person - if it's enough to bother you, it's pretty quiet.
