TL Audio PA-1 Dual Pentode Tube Stereo Microphone Preamp Modded API 2520 Opamps
TL Audio PA-1 Dual Pentode Tube Stereo Microphone Preamp Modified & Serviced. Recently serviced and heavily modified TL Audio PA-1 dual pentode mic preamp. The unit is in very good working and cosmetic condition save for some rack rash on the top and bottom of the preamp. All film caps have been replaced with high-quality Wima MK4 films and the SSM2142 output IC's have been removed and replaced with socketed gold pin diy API 2520 discrete opamps. This modifies the preamp to be much like the Summit Audio TPA-200B which used Jensen 990 discrete opamps on the outputs.
The discrete opamps are mounted on a daughterboard with its own power supply filtering running at +-18V. The unit has just been gone through and given a thorough cleaning and all the Lorlin switches and pots have been cleaned and re-lubed. Not to be confused with the PA-2, this is a very different preamp with input transformers and both12AX7 and EF86 stages running full plate voltage. The EF86's in the unit are a matched pair of Svetlana's(Winged C's) and the 12AX7's are a matched pair of Yugoslavian Ei(orginal, not re-issue) tubes branded as Edicrol. This preamp sounds better to my ears then my Demeter VTMP tube preamp and is very much in the league of Avalon, DW Fern, A Designs, and the aforementioned Summit Audio.
