Its a wonderful channel strip that contains a classic microphone pre-amp, equalizer and compressor. It works perfectly and Ive never had a single issue with it. In a studio with lots of great choices of gear, including Neve, API, Manley, and Focusrite, the LA-610 always held its own and was the favorite choice for things like vocals, bass, piano, acoustic guitar, and even keyboards and digital instruments through the line input.
The left side is a 610 pre-amp with some nice eq shelving options, and the right side is modeled after the LA2A compressor. The 610 and LA2A were designed by Bill Putnam who also designed the 1176 compressor and is a true legend for his gear designs that have really stood the test of time. If you like things to sound big and warm and analog, you are going to like it a lot. It brings a lot of color and texture into a stale digital recording.
One of the best things about this unit is the ability to try different tubes to alter the tone. Having two made it easy to compare the effects of different tubes, and while the stock tubes sound quite nice, the Telefunkens added this silky smoothness that I really fell in love with. The pictures are of the actual unit. Its in very nice condition. I took a picture of the inside just in case someone wants to see that for whatever reason.
The tubes are the original tubes that came with the unit. Nothing has been modified in any way.
